The crowning achievement of architect John Pinch, Sydney Place was built between 1807 and 1808. Pinch'sother works include Cavendish Crescent and Sion Hill Place in Lansdown. Pinch was the retained architect of the Darlington Estate, off Bathwick Hill and designed the terrace, taking the Bath stone exclusively from one quarry and raising it tier by tier to form one compact building.
