England's grammar school system is unique, forming a patchwork of academic excellence across the country. By 2023 there were 163 grammar schools, educating just under 190,000 children. A diverse mix of schools range from the fully selective where children sit the eleven-plus exam, to those that select a small proportion of pupils in just a handful of specialist subjects.
The interactive map below shows the location of all 163 grammar schools in England, alongside information on the number of pupils and the quality of education provided as assessed by Ofsted during their last inspection. 'Outstanding' schools are ranked 1, 'good' schools 2, those 'requiring improvement' 3 and 'inadequate' schools 4. Currently, 65% of grammar schools are deemed to be outstanding, in comparison to 18% of all secondary schools nationally. The map also illustrates average house prices across the local authorities each school serves.
